Insurance Policy
The subject of insurance can be a complicated one, but it’s important that you know how and when our policies cover Wingz’ Client-Drivers and your passengers in the event of an incident.
The following is an overview of how our insurance policies work. There are two coverages included in our insurance policies (unless otherwise noted, these coverages are in effect from the time you start a ride until the time the ride has ended in the app).
- Primary Automobile Liability
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)
If you're carrying a TNC-endorsed policy or a commercial policy, our insurance is in excess.
Important: Please make sure to ask your insurance company or broker to include coverage for your rideshare activity. Most major insurance companies offer a specific option that lists providing rides as an independent rideshare driver as a covered activity.
How does Wingz's liability coverage work?
- Driver mode off: Your personal insurance is your insurance policy.
- Ride begins ("Start ride") and through the end of the ride ("Drop-off"): Our primary liability insurance is designed to act as the primary coverage during the period from the time you begin a ride request until the time the ride has ended in the app. The policy has a $1,000,000 or $1,500,000 per accident limit depending on market requirements (please see your market COI for more information). Note: If you already carry commercial insurance (or personal coverage providing specific coverage for ridesharing), Wingz’s policy will continue to be in excess of any applicable insurance coverage.
What does UM/UIM mean and how does this coverage work?
UM stands for uninsured motorist and UIM stands for underinsured motorist. In the event of an accident (once you have accepted a ride and are transporting a passenger) with a driver who is uninsured or underinsured and is ultimately at fault for bodily injury caused to you or your passengers, our UM/UIM coverage will apply up to $1M per accident. There is no deductible on UM/UIM claims.
When do these coverages apply?
These coverages are in effect beginning when you swipe "start ride" on your driver app and before you start driving to the pick-up location. Coverages continue while you’re giving a ride to a passenger and until the passenger exits your vehicle and you end the ride in the app.
What states are covered by this policy?
Our policy is available in all states in the U.S. Some regions may have specific requirements that modify the described coverage.
