๐ What is this job about?
This role is for professional NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) drivers. Youโll help local members, including elderly individuals and people with disabilities, safely get to their medical appointments.
Trips are scheduled in advance, allowing you to plan predictable routes and work more efficiently.
๐ฅ Do you transport people or packages?
You will be transporting people, not packages. Your role is to safely assist members from their door to the vehicle and escort them to their healthcare destination.
๐ฐ How do I get paid?
Wingz drivers are paid weekly via direct deposit.
Payments are processed every Monday for trips completed during the previous week (Monday through Sunday).
Example:
Trips completed March 3 โ March 9 โ Paid Monday, March 17
If you continue driving every week, you will receive a payment every Monday, since each weekโs trips are paid the following week.
Your bank may take additional time to process deposits, and holidays may affect timing.
๐ How much is the pay?
Drivers earn $1.08 per loaded mile, meaning you are paid for the miles when a passenger is in your vehicle.
The distance used for payment is based on the shortest route calculated by the transportation broker. You can review the trip details and payout in the driver app before accepting the trip, so you can decide if it makes sense for you.
Drivers may also have opportunities for multi-loading. This means transporting more than one member along a similar route, allowing you to earn for multiple trips while driving a single route.
๐ต What costs am I responsible for during onboarding?
As an independent contractor, drivers are responsible for a few onboarding costs required for program compliance and safety certification.
Required onboarding costs:
- $15 Background Check payment โ partially covers the background check process. This amount is refunded after you are activated and complete your first trip.
- $15 Vehicle Inspection โ completed through RideShare Mechanic to confirm the vehicle meets safety requirements.
- $25 CTAA PASS Basic Training โ an online Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity certification used across the NEMT industry.
These steps are required before activation to ensure drivers meet safety and program standards.
๐ Do I need my own vehicle?
Yes. Wingz does not provide vehicles. Drivers must use their own 2010 or newer 4-door vehicle (Sedan, SUV, or Minivan) that is in good working condition.
๐ Does the vehicle need to be registered in my name?
No. The vehicle does not have to be registered under your name.
However, you must be listed as a named insured driver on the insurance policy for that vehicle.
๐ก What insurance coverage do I need?
Drivers must maintain their own personal auto insurance.
Wingz provides liability coverage while you are actively on a trip, but drivers are still required to maintain their own valid insurance policy.
๐ Do I need to pass a background check and drug test?
Yes. Wingz requires a national background check, review of your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and a drug screening as part of onboarding.
๐ง Do I need special training?
Yes. During onboarding you will complete short training modules covering passenger safety, defensive driving, and assisting members who may need additional support during transportation.
๐ฃ Do I need to speak English?
Yes. Drivers must be comfortable communicating in English to coordinate trips and ensure passenger safety.
You do not need to be fluent. Being bilingual (for example Spanish) is helpful but not required.
๐ Can I take time off?
Yes. As an independent contractor, you control your own schedule.
Just update your availability ahead of time if you plan to take time off.
๐ Can I switch vehicles later?
Yes. If you change vehicles, you will need to submit updated vehicle documents for approval before using the new vehicle for trips.
๐งพ Can I deduct driving expenses on my taxes?
Yes. Because drivers operate as 1099 independent contractors, you may be able to deduct expenses such as mileage, fuel, maintenance, phone plans, and other driving-related costs.
You should consult a tax professional for specific guidance.
๐ Can two drivers share one vehicle?
No. Wingz operates under a one vehicle per driver policy.
Each driver must have their own approved vehicle to remain active.
