Is This a Good Fit for You?
To drive with Wingz, you must be able to answer yes to the following:
- You have a 2010 or newer 4-door vehicle (Sedan, SUV, or Minivan)
- You can drive at least 3 weekdays per week (Monday–Friday)
- You can complete at least 10 trip legs per week
- You are comfortable transporting passengers to medical appointments
- You can pass a background check and drug screening
- You are comfortable working as an independent contractor (1099) using your own vehicle

Minimum Requirements

- ✅ Valid driver’s license (Tennessee or neighboring state if commuting into TN)
- ✅ Vehicle registration
- ✅ Auto insurance
- ✅ Able to pass background check + drug screening
- ✅ Able to communicate in English for coordination and safety
Important Expectations
- Drivers must be available at least 3 weekdays per week (Monday–Friday) to remain active
- Drivers are expected to complete at least 10 legs per week
- Trips are scheduled medical transportation, so reliability and punctuality are essential
- This is an independent contractor (1099) role
- Drivers use their own vehicle and are responsible for their own taxes

VERIDA Onboarding Steps & Requirements
To become an active Wingz NEMT driver, the following onboarding steps must be completed. Drivers are expected to complete these steps within 7 days so their application can move forward without delays.
Getting onboard with Verida must be completed within 15 days from the date your background check results and MVR have been reviewed and approved by Verida.
Verida only accepts updated background check and DOT drug and alcohol test results within 30 days.
1. Upload Required Documents
Drivers must upload the following:
- Driver’s license
- Vehicle registration
- Auto insurance
- Social Security card
- Profile photo
- Vehicle photos
All documents must be clear with all four corners visible.
- Registration must be in the business or owner's name
- Insurance must include rideshare activities
- If the vehicle is not in your name, a signed and notarized lease agreement is required
2. Interview
Drivers will complete an interview with the Wingz team as part of the onboarding process.
3. Background Check & Drug Test
- Wingz pays $109 for the drug and alcohol test
- Driver pays $69.50 for BGC, SS, and MVR
4. Signing Documents, W9, TN Code of Conduct & Banking Details
Drivers will complete final onboarding paperwork and submit banking details for payment setup.
5. Credentialing
Drivers must complete the required NEMT credentialing course and Verida virtual training.
- Cost: $250 paid by Wingz
- 8 modules required for Tennessee NEMT credentialing
- Training takes approximately 36 hours
- Must be completed on a desktop or laptop using Google Chrome
6. Vehicle Inspection – Safety Equipment Required
Drivers must pass a final Verida vehicle inspection. Safety equipment typically costs $180–$200 and is paid by the driver.
The following safety items must be in the vehicle before inspection:
- First aid kit — Amazon | Walmart
- Biohazard cleanup kit — Amazon | Walmart
- 5 lb fire extinguisher or two 2.5 lb fire extinguishers — Amazon | Walmart
- Fire extinguishers must have a pressure gauge showing a green arrow, a current inspection tag, and must be safely secured within the vehicle.
- 2 seat belt extenders compatible with your vehicle — Store Link
- Seatbelt cutter (2-pack) — Store Link
- Set of 3 emergency reflective triangles — Amazon | Walmart
- Heavy-duty metal step stool with non-skid rubber tips rated to 300 lbs (SUVs, minivans, or vans only)
- Railroad crossing decal — Amazon
- Vehicle interior signage
- Vehicle exterior signage (provided by Wingz)
Other stores shared by drivers include Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware, Target, Home Hardware, True Value, auto parts stores, pharmacies, and similar stores.
You may use any appropriately sized crate to store and secure your safety items in the trunk or interior cabin so they can be accessed quickly when needed.
Vehicles must be clean and in safe operating condition during inspection. Windshield cracks, bald tires, excessive rust, AC issues, interior or exterior damage, or third-party advertising stickers may cause inspection failure.
No company signage, name, or branding may appear on the exterior of the vehicle for this program.
7. Wingz Training & Activation
Once all onboarding steps are completed and approved, drivers will complete Wingz training and then be activated to begin accepting trips.
Recommended Routes
Wingz builds recommended routes to help drivers stay consistent and maximize trip opportunities.
- Recommended routes are based on market demand and trip coverage needs
- Recommended routes are automatically added to the days you don't yet have a trip scheduled, based on the availability you've provided
- Drivers will continue receiving recommended routes by default
- If your availability changes, or a recommended route does not work, drivers should notify the team as soon as possible
Peak Driving Hours
Our typical weekday peak driving hours are:
- 4:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Cancellation & Reliability
Medical appointments rely on drivers arriving on time. Once a driver commits to a trip, they are expected to complete it.
If a driver cannot complete a scheduled trip, they must notify the team at least 48 hours in advance. Failure to provide adequate notice may result in penalties, as reliability is critical for medical transportation.
Common Reasons Applicants Do Not Pass
Not every applicant will qualify. Common reasons an application may not move forward include:
- Unable to pass a background check similar to Uber or Lyft standards
- Felony history
- Driver’s license suspensions
- More than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years
- More than 2 at-fault accidents in the last 3 years
- License suspension due to traffic violations in the last 5 years
- Failure to meet document, vehicle, or compliance requirements

Do you transport people?

What kind of vehicle do I need?

Do I need my own vehicle or will Wingz provide one?
You must use your own vehicle. Wingz does not provide vehicles.
Do I need a Tennessee driver’s license?
Drivers may use a Tennessee license or a license from a neighboring state if they live in that state and commute into Tennessee for trips.
Does the vehicle need to be registered under my name?
Not necessarily. However, you must be authorized to use the vehicle and it must meet program requirements.
Do I need to pass a background check and drug screening?
Yes. Drivers must be able to pass a background check and drug screening as part of onboarding.
Do riders need special assistance?
Most riders are able to walk on their own. Drivers are not expected to lift passengers.
Do I need special training?
Yes. Drivers will complete required credentialing, Wingz training, and other onboarding steps before activation.
Am I an independent contractor?
Yes. This is an independent contractor (1099) role.
Can I deduct expenses on my taxes?
Because this is a 1099 role, drivers are responsible for their own taxes and may wish to speak with a tax professional about eligible deductions.
Can I take time off?
Yes. If you need time off, please notify the team as early as possible so your availability can be updated.
Can my partner and I share one vehicle?
Drivers must have access to a qualifying vehicle that is available for their use and meets program requirements.
